back to Rocky Mountain Allred page Minutes of the April 19th Rocky Mountain Allred’s Reunion Meeting.
The members of the Reunion committee met at the Shanghai Garden, 188 West 7200 South, Midvale, UT, at 6:30 PM. We all feasted from a wonderfully prepared Chinese buffet dinner. After which, at about 7:30, we began our Reunion meeting. New members in attendance, Sandy L Allred, Don and Annetta Mortensen, Judy Garff, and Loriann Taylor. Larry introduced every one, Dusty Smith was excused, and no word came from Jerry Lynn Lloyd or her Father Jerry Bradley regarding their attendance. Ron Tate was introduced, and asked to take about five to ten minuets to show and tell us about his product, and how it would benefit our reunion. Ron and his brother are calligraphers, artists, and teachers. They have built their own business where they produce very beautiful and colorful 6-generation pedigree charts. He had five or six of them available for display. One had the new Nauvoo Temple on it; others were various scenes such as old houses, flowers and gardens, even some patriotic scenes. They usually sell the chart, your selection, for $25. They would sell them to us for $12.50 each. We could sell them to any one else for whatever price we wanted and make that much in profit for the organization. People could do their own writing on the chart, or they could purchase clear labels, and print the information on the labels and post the labels on the chart. Or they could hire Ron to print it on the chart for them. Ron would have a representative at our reunion, who would have all the different prints of the chart, all the information regarding costs and printing etc, so that any one can make the decisions they want and walk away with a very beautiful pedigree chart or order the work done for them. It was unanimously agreed that we would have Ron’s product at our reunion. It was unanimously agreed that we would charge $15 for the charts. Ron indicated that there would be a residual affect here also, to our benefit. His Web site is www.Calligraphydesign.com for any one who would like to see what he has available. Larry talked about having sent out about 360 flyers to Allred’s in the phone books from around the states of Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. That he had another 360 stamped envelopes ready to stuff with flyers and mail. He said that he had not even opened the Salt Lake City Phone book, nor had he opened the Uintah Basin phone directory. Sherral Goodrich said she would make copies of the flyer and send them out to those in the Uintah Basin. Every one else indicated they would make copies and send out to their families and relatives as well. Larry asked whether or not we wanted to rent another PA system? It was discussed and talked about how the one rented last year was just not good enough for various reasons those in the back could not hear what was being said. Larry’s sister, Linda talked about a friend, Neldon Adair, who dose this kind of thing all the time and specializes in difficult and hard to hear areas. Larry said he knew Neldon and would talk to him. Larry brought out that Alan and Kathy Allred, of the Photo Archives, have asked to be released from this job. He asked every one to think about it and study their families for the possibilities of some having good computer skills that could take over this job. Every one agreed. He also indicated that Randy and LouAnn Borgstrom had also asked to be released from their job of handling the Raffle. He had discussed it in the previous meeting and Linda Bronson had talked to her sister-in-law Sandy L Allred, about the job, and she has agreed to take it on. Her husband Carl, Linda’s brother, will do our Auction again this year. Larry indicated that already he has received phone calls and email messages, as a result of the flyers, from non-members who are interested in coming to the reunion. So already the flyers are attracting attention to the reunion, and what is being presented there. Each of those in charge of the various families being highlighted were given time to express their plans and ideas for their booths. Gene Mounteer was the first, on the William Moore Allred Line. He indicated that Linda Bronson and Dusty Smith are helping, and are preparing things on the Byron Harvey Allred Sr. family, a son of W. M. Allred. Also that Gordon and Sharon Allred were preparing some thing on the Byron Harvey Allred Jr. family. Eric Allred gave an update on his presentation on the Isaac, son of James, family. Larry gave him a paper with several other names of families from that same line who may want to help, and may have more or even different information to present. Sherral Goodrich gave a short talk on her Presentation on Reuben Warren Allred, and indicated that Don and Annetta Mortensen were here also to help on that line, as were Judy Garff and her daughter Loriann Taylor. Sherral mentioned that she wasn’t sure where they would be setting up their booth, so Larry expressed to every one what his thoughts were on this. That is, that he wanted to get every one outside, but under awnings or tarps. And that Linda and Bill had been working on this situation and have built a large awning about 20 feet wide and 40 feet long. Larry expressed that his original thought was to have several small awnings set up in a semi circle just south of the bowery, in the grass, and having each of the boots in that semi circle. Power can be brought from the Bowery to the semi circle, and also from the restrooms on the south side of the park. Several expressed the need for power at their booths. Jackie Loyola talked briefly on what she and Alice Pottmyer were planning on in their presentation on William Hackley Allred. Burnell Coons talked a little about their needs for their presentation on Paulinus Harvey Allred. He talked about not ever having to do anything like this, but was very excited to do it and was passing on that excitement to other family members, who were excited to help out. Burnell felt that he would have a representative there from each of the children of Paulinus at the reunion, and helping in their booth Larry talked about the need to have things set up Friday morning. Quite a few said they would be there to help set up. Nametags were talked about. We will have a sign in roster and an agenda for the reunion will be handed out and every one will be filling out their nametags there. The question was asked, where are we meeting next month? Linda Bronson suggested in light of the fact that the RMA is out of funds, that we meet at some one’s home, instead of at the restaurant, and donate what would have been the costs at the restaurant, to the RMA. The idea was well accepted and Burnell Coons offered his home for the next meeting. It was agreed that we would do a “pot luck” dinner there at Burnell’s home, at 365 East 1500 South, Bountiful, UT 84010, on Friday, May 17th. Phone number, 295-6518, their daughter Carolyn’s number is 292-9748. It was moved and seconded, and unanimously approved, that the meeting be adjourned. Time: 9:45 PM Friday, 19 April 2002. |
