ECAFA Meeting Minutes REMINDER: 2005 Dues are Due! The ECAFA held their first meeting of the new year at Best Foods Cafeteria in Siler City. 18 members attended: Linda Allred Cooper Linda opened the meeting by passing around several cards she had received in the mail during the Christmas Holiday. Becky will keep these cards in the ECAFA record book. Everyone received handouts of the new research report on the latest DNA project results. The report detailed the newest results from participant Warren Aldred who has traced his family back to Salford, Manchester, England. This report will also be published in the next AFO newsletter. Information about two upcoming Research Trips was shared. The first research trip will take place June 5 - 12, 2005, following the path of the Colonial Great Wagon Road from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. Researchers will have an opportunity to spend time in a variety of historical and genealogy libraries during the trip. The Great Wagon Road was one of the most popular traveling paths used by migrating colonists in the early and mid 1700's. The theory is that many of central North Carolina's original settlers probably traveled this path. Retracing their steps may give us access to original documents and information about their lives, families and origins. Some funding for this trip is expected from the AFO and from the Randolph County Genealogical Society (RCGS). Advertisements for this trip will be in the next AFO newsletter and in the upcoming Spring 2005 issue of the RCGS Journal. After discussion, Franklin made a motion that the ECAFA donated $200.00 towards the cost of purchasing a plane ticket for Dawnell Griffin (Bluffdale, Utah), so she can attend the Research Trip. Dawnell is a Certified Genealogist with a degree in Genealogy from Brigham Young University. Her research expertise and knowledge will be a huge benefit on this trip. Hollis seconded the motion and all members voted in approval. The second research trip is being planned for Spring 2006. Researchers will travel to Lancashire, England where many believe their roots are. Plans for this trip are expected to be finalized by the end of 2005. Linda then directed discussion to the Colonial Trading Path Association. This local organization (based in Hillsborough, NC) studies and seeks to find those ancient trading paths that run through central North Carolina. They also host several one day research trips to explore these trading paths. Everyone expressed interest in attending some of these day trips. Schedules and plans will be discussed at the next meeting. The ECAFA will meet again on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at 6pm
